Project V: Night

Thursday, May 5th, 2011

Night is a fashion series focused on anonymity. The goal for the lighting was to attempt to replicate a night time feeling while inside the studio.

If you liked the series, don’t forget to check out all of the Project V previews.

Project IV: Secrets

Monday, April 18th, 2011

So Project IV is done, and it took a lot longer than I expected. My assignment was to explore the idea of secrets (as you can see, I put a lot of effort into thinking of an original name for this series…). Rather than base the entire series on a single secret, I decided I could have a lot more fun with this if I created separate images (completely unrelated to each other) to explore various secrets. My main reason being, I didn’t want to be tied down to a specific story.

As for the secrets behind each photo, there isn’t any definite answer. The photo of the girl throwing up for example could be bulimia or just a random drunken night. I didn’t want a completely obvious secret to be shown in each photo. I’m much more concerned with having each photo trigger some sort of sense of curiosity.

Project III: Chase

Thursday, March 17th, 2011

I decided to shoot a short stop motion video for Project III. The whole thing is composed of a little over 300 pictures out of a set of 900. I teamed up with Marc Rivera for this project to handle the music. You can check out his other stuff right here. This definitely won’t be the last you see from Marc and we’re currently trying to string together another possible short film for class in the next few months.

The short itself is a very simple chase scene. It was inspired from my high school memories of students rushing out of the classroom whenever the bell rang. My original plans revolved around having Bria chase Adam while running through walls, but unfortunately my idea didn’t really translate on camera the way I had hoped it would.

If you haven’t been keeping up, you can check out the Project III previews. Also, make sure to watch the clip in HD!

Project I: Lifted

Thursday, February 3rd, 2011

Here are the final pieces for Project I. This was my first class assignment so I was pretty excited throughout the whole thing. I’ve been given 5 projects to complete for the semester, and although I’m neither a photo major or minor, I intend to take these projects very seriously and decided to make them the main focus of my blog updates from now until May.

So, let’s talk about Project I! I was asked to shoot a series of 8 photographs representing an “everyday experience.” The experience could be something as mundane as watching television to more complex situations like relationships. In response to all the attention that the legalize marijuana movement received in 2010, I decided to do my series on smoking.

There are 9 photos below that are split between direct references to smoking and more conceptual interpretations. The whole series consisted of nearly 700 sample photos and a little over 15 hours of editing.

Disclaimer: Please note that this photo series is not made to be a representation of me or anyone pictured in the photographs. This was made for artistic purposes only. No illegal substances were consumed in these photographs.

From Start to Finish… Confessions and Reflections

Saturday, January 1st, 2011

I’m exhausted. I can honestly say that carrying my camera every day for an entire year was probably the most annoying commitment I’ve ever made. But hey, 2010 is finally over and my 365 Project is officially complete. I’ve been posting weekly updates on the photo series on this blog, but now you can check it out from start to finish in a single gallery, which I posted right above (BTW it’s a big gallery so it might take a while to load, just give it some time).

For the people out there who are unfamiliar with the project, it entails a picture a day, for the entire year. All photos were shot from a standard 50mm field of view using natural lighting only.

Now here’s my 2010 confession, 12 photos broke the rules.

* 4 photos were shot with a wide angle lens (of those four, two were shot with flash)
* 5 photos were shot by 5 different friends
* 3 photos were shot with an iPhone

I may do an update in the near future detailing which 12 photos broke my rules. But in the mean time, check out the gallery here!
