Franny Dines Out: French

Tuesday, December 6th, 2011

I spent my Thanksgiving at La Bohéme Du Tertre, located in Paris around the Montmartre area. Sadly, I have to say the food was pretty disappointing, and to make matters worse, I actually didn’t eat French food here. We ended up at La Bohéme because they had the most affordable prices in the area and after a couple of days of dealing with the EUR/USD exchange rate we were feeling pretty poor. On another note, we managed to get a table next to the restaurant’s cat… which believe it or not played a huge role in that decision making process as well.

We ordered the cheapest thing we could find, which was two combination steak and french fries dinner with one dessert and a combination chicken and fries with dessert. Both meals came with a sad, sad, looking salad. I can’t speak much for the chicken, but the steak was ehhh.

Franny Dines Out: South African

Sunday, November 27th, 2011

So my friends and I have decided to try out a different ethnic restaurant at least twice a month. To start things off, we checked out Madiba Restaurant in Brooklyn, NY for some South African food. The atmosphere was really warm and welcoming and the food was delicious. The staff is pretty awesome too. Our waiter even let us copy some music from the restaurant’s computer before leaving. It’s definitely one of the friendlier places I’ve been too. It gave off a very family orientated feel; the type of environment where regulars could just walk in, grab a seat and hang out for a few hours.

Madiba started us off with bread and a spicy, oil-based sauce. After which, we had raw ostrich for an appetizer. The ostrich is cut extremely thin and served with slices of cheese. If anyone here is into the whole cheese and wine thing, you would probably enjoy this one. For our main dishes, we ordered lamb chops, prawns with curry, and seafood curry. Madiba’s menu is filled with curry-based dishes, which is great because I love curry.

You can check out Madiba’s reviews at Yelp.

Soy and Sake Village

Friday, November 12th, 2010

I started coming to Soy & Sake last year during my Freshmen year and fell in love with the place. It’s a vegan Japanese restaurant in West Village, that serves imitation meat and fish products made out of soy, tofu, roots, and other random shit. Here’s the thing though, it actually tastes like real meat! Prices are pretty reasonable too, between $10-15 for dinner and $6-9 for drinks. Definitely worth checking out if you’re ever roaming around Village. They’re located on the corner of 7th Ave South and Morton Street.

Check them out at Yelp!
