Hi my name is Francis.

I'm just a college student trying to remember what this life is like through photographs.

Courtney’s Sweet 16

Monday, September 14th, 2009

Here’s some pictures from the last event I shot. I tried to stay away from posed portrait shots and focus more on the photojournalism side this time around. My flash actually ran out of batteries midway through the party and I ended up following the videographer around while attempting to strategically set up my shots to use the video camera’s light as my main light source. It was a nuisance at first, but before I knew it, I found myself really liking the videographer’s light source and decide to pass out on reloading my flash with a fresh set of batteries.

Alexandra Ritchie

So Alex here is a self-taught musician from California and freshmen at St. John’s University. She found me through Facebook in the St. John’s network about a month before classes began and sent me a message requesting a photo shoot. I normally don’t do this but considering she would be my first client in my new school and I was pretty open towards meeting other freshmen, I offered to shoot her in exchange for guitar lessons instead of money. Speaking of which, I still have to buy my guitar!

The Freedom Tunnels

Wednesday, September 9th, 2009

The Freedom Tunnels has always been an area of interest to me. Over the years, the railroad inside has turned into a safe haven for the homeless, a graffiti hotspot, and a center for curious adventurers. I include myself in the last part. I decided to end my summer by using the location for my last summer photo shoot. The entire shoot was actually a complete failure due to me and my friends getting lost and our flashlights running out of batteries; but hey, at least it was a fun day.

I’ll be sure to head back there sometime in the future… better equipped of course.
